The Orpheum Theater, Flagstaff’s premiere entertainment venue, was built by John Weatherford and opened in August 1917. The original building on this sight collapsed during the heaviest snowfall in Flagstaff history on New Years Eve 1915.
The theater was a hotspot for the public to enjoy film, plays and musical productions. After decades of entertainment, the theater closed in 1999.
In August 2002 following a three-year hiatus, and months of extensive renovations, the historic theater was revived. The venue was re-opened under the new ownership of the Orpheum Presents with a business model geared toward hosting concerts, films, and a wide variety of community gatherings. The Orpheum presents brought a breathe of fresh air to the downtown landmark, making the venue a space to entertain a new generation of Flagstaff residents and visitors.
The Orpheum has and will continue its historical entertainment legacy as a staple in downtown Flagstaff.
